I was looking through old stuff on my hard drive today and found this doodle that I did awhile back.  There's something about it that I like.

This is a book that my sister Emily wrote and I illustrated for my family.  We gave it to them for Christmas and it was a huge sappy hit.  My parents cried and everything.  Score one for us ^_^.

I had a lot of fun making it.  My family and my childhood mean more to me than I can really say.  This book became a good outlet.  And it's my first complete book!  That alone makes me happy.  I hope to do more in the future!

Making Christmas

This was my submission for a holiday card contest at the stop-mo studio where I work.  Due to a mixup it didn't actually get entered with the rest, so I thought I'd post it here just for fun.

Since it's a stop motion studio and everything is done in miniature, I thought it would be fun to see how miniature I could get.  Elves making elves.  The smallest one's head is 1 pixel ^_^.

Looking at it again, I'm not sure I pulled off my original intent, but oh well.  Onward and upward.

Merry Christmas to all!

...From NY.  So that means that I get to take a road trip across this beautiful country!  I'll be living in the woods for 2 weeks or more starting this Tuesday and I'm so excited!

I'll be looking for work in the Portland area once I get out there but I'm also very game for freelance, so let me know if you hear of anything.

ALSO.  I've updated my portfolio blog.  ----> PORTFOLIO

Go check it out if you get the chance.  I've redone my demo reel as well which you can view there free of charge! ^_^  Feedback is always welcome!

P.S.  "The Beast of the Tent" is my brother's imaginary friend from childhood.  I did this painting awhile ago as a christmas present to him.

Dikkers Cartoon Company

Hey all!

I am very excited to say that the cartoon website that I've been animating, designing, storyboarding and on for a year is now up and running!  I animated all of "Ape Trouble" and half of the other two.  I did all the backgrounds for "Tycoon Tyke" and half of them for the other two.

Check it out and let me know what you think!

I went on a sketching scavenger hunt around Manhattan today. Something I plan to do more of.
You should try it!

Here's how: List a bunch of things to collect. Cut them into strips of paper. Put them in a hat. Pick out 10 or so. Then GO!

Some examples of mine:

1. Something burned
2. Something over
3. Something under
4. Something that won't shut up
5. Something trying to be something else

Or whatever you think of. It's fun to hunt them down.

Ghost Post

A Post-a-week my arse you say?

Here are 2 to make up for my slack.

The Cherries are a bloomin'! And one of the prettiest places in Brooklyn is the Botanic Garden (which I am lucky enough to live right nearby!)

I don't know what I'm doing with colored pencils...but this gave me an excuse to gaze at cherry blossoms. At least I looked like I was being productive.

Hello all! I've finally decided to stop being completely lazy and do some things outside of work. This is just a quick sketch colored up in photoshop, but it is hopefully the first of many things to come. I'm going to try to post one a week. Even if it's just quick stuff like this. I need a kick start.

Work is going well. Hopefully next month I'll be able to post a link to the website and you can all see what I've been doing with myself for the last year (besides sleeping and NOT posting on this blog.)

Once again originally inspired by a song that really sounds nothing like this image.

I picture the chorus of fishies singing one long chord. Maybe an E minor. :)

"I dreamed you were a cosmonaut
of the space between our chairs
And I was a cartographer
of the tangles in your hair"
-from 'Armchairs' by Andrew Bird
I'm not tired yet, so this comes out. Andrew Bird writes beautiful lyrics and I destroy them with strange pictures.

I got caught in the rain today on the way back from the Met. This is based off a couple I saw in the park while I was running from the downpour. Aww...

Drawing Day

self portrait with cactus.

Scribbled for drawing day 2009

I bought a cactus at a street fair today and it looks like a little monster. So cute.
I swear I'll draw something other than me next time I post. Two in a row = narcissistic.

Happy Drawing Day!

Killers on the F train

I've been spending some quality time with the F train and about the first 5 songs of the latest "Killers" album.

I really like that line from "A Dustland Fairytale"

NY is full of wierdos. It's great!

Italians and Flippy Dippy Dolphins

Here are some character sketches for the film I just finished for work! I'm basically posting semi old stuff b/c I have only been running around these days and not sketching. This is going to continue (the running around part) since I'm traveling most of the month! Whoo! And I'll be starting a new job in Brooklyn begining of next month! NY inspires me with all it's chaos, so I'll take advantage of the hustle and bustle (and long subway commutes) to hopefully get some sketching done ^_^.

Till then! I'm off to Toronto--->North Carolina--->Chicago---->Manhattan! Ciao!
